I decided to create myself a couple extra Tinder accounts in order to do some A-B testing of image / profile effectiveness.
There were a few hurdles to get over, but I was able to get multiple Tinder accounts on the same Android device using the official Tinder app. The process is described here.
Get Facebook accounts
The easy solution is to buy a set of Phone-Verified accounts online. Just search for Facebook PVA and you should be able to find something like 10 accounts for <$10.
You can create accounts yourself. Create outlook.com email addresses that Facebook will accept for registration. Facebook seems to allow you to validate multiple accounts with the same phone number, but registration will need to be spread over several days.
Upload photos
Upload any photo you want to use to a private 'only me' album.
Register with Tinder
Launch Tinder and log in with your new Facebook account.
Here is where you run into a roadblock, Tinder requires your phone number for a text message verification code. Each unique phone number can only be used on a single Tinder account. (Hint, watch the messages on 'adb logcat' to see the 500 error that states this plainly)
Fortunately, there is a convenient bug in the Tinder phone number validation. Extra digits can be added to the end of your valid phone number to make a new unique number. The SMS provider used by Tinder discards these extra digits and the text message will still be delivered to your actual address. For example, if your number is +1-604-123-4567, just add on an 8 to the very end and press SEND.
Multiple Apps (Optional)
You could stop here and just use your multiple accounts through the Tinder app. This is a bit laborious as it requires you to log out from Facebook, log in with the next account, log out from Tinder, then log back in, each time you want to switch.
Another approach is to use multiple copies of the Tinder app, as shown above:
- Download the Tinder APK and edit it with APK Studio.
- Edit AndroidManifest.xml to change the package from com.tinder to com.tinder2, only the top package declaration, and the 'permission' entries should be changed. Don't touch the activity definitions.
- Edit the values/strings.xml to set app.name to Tinder 2
- Run the build command and install the new APK on your device. (See installation instructions here if unsure)
3 versions of the Tinder4.0.4 APK are attached here for convenience:
